A £4 million sports complex at Bruntwood SciTech’s Alderley Park has now opened to the public after construction completed in October.
The new sports facility has been designed by Pozzoni Architecture, and the complex features a 4-court sports hall, fitness suite, group exercise suite and Group Cycle studio suitable for immersive events. The sports complex also features three outdoor tennis courts and five-a-side football pitch with dedicated changing facilities.
The design of the sports complex echo the buildings landscaped surroundings at Alderley Park. Construction used reconstituted and recycled materials where possible, and a Gabion wall uses local stone from the site.
Martin Bransby, Director at Pozzoni Architecture said:
Alderley Park’s Sports Complex really breaks the mould of the traditional leisure centre. We were given a unique, off-piste brief and a stunning site to work with. From the outset, we tried to bring the feeling of being outdoors into our designs for the building.
“We’ve used traditional and sustainable materials in some innovative ways, to give a fairly simplistic building a dramatic appearance and genuine curb appeal. We’re extremely satisfied with the end results and hope the public get fantastic use out of the centre.”
Construction began on the 21,000 sq ft sports complex in December 2018, carried out by GMI Construction Group. The leisure centre is being operated by Everybody Sport & Recreation.
