Work has started on a 32-week project to develop a new 1.5-mile walking and cycling route between Wilmslow town centre and Handforth.
The project aims to improve accessibility and provide an enhanced, safe route connecting the two communities. The initial phase of works, taking place over the next 32 weeks will include:
- Installation of new segregated cycleway;
- Two new crossings for pedestrians and cyclists;
- The introduction of a bus stop bypass;
- Improved signage; and
- A reduction in the speed limit along the route from 40mph to 30mph
During the works, a combination of road closures and temporary signals will be in place, as well as suitable diversion routes. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be always maintained, though cyclists may be asked to dismount.
Bus services will continue during the closure, however, there may be some impact to the service which will operate via a revised route where necessary.
