TV presenter, Gethin Jones, will host a virtual quiz organised by Wilmslow events agency, Make Events, to raise funds for local charity Seashell Trust.
Make Events were due to produce the Strictly Seashell Ball this Saturday for the second year running, however the event had to be cancelled due to restrictions posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Seashell Trust and the Wilmslow agency however, decided the show must go on, albeit in a very different way.
To continue providing an opportunity to raise funds for the trust, Make Events and Gethin Jones have come together to put on a virtual Lockdown quiz event for Saturday 16th May, ensuring the 400 guests looking forward to attending can still have a source of entertainment for the evening.
The Seashell Trust is a national charity supporting children and young adults with complex learning disabilities and additional communication needs from across the UK. They provide education and care, from 2 – 25 years, at the outstanding school and college and through short breaks services.
While Gethin, whose nephew has autism, will host the Strictly Seashell Lockdown Quiz from his home in Manchester; the Wilmslow events agency will run the virtual experience behind the scenes.
Since November 2020, North West business leaders including Make Events CEO Holly Moore, have been learning to ballroom dance at Cadman’s Dance Academy in Sale. They were due to show off their new talents at the Strictly Seashell Ball at Hilton Manchester Deansgate hosted by Gethin Jones himself. Holly said:
At first being able to support a charity event at this time when we are in one of the worst hit industries seemed impossible, but the more I talked to the trust the more I could see how much they needed our help. We have been working on virtual event experience offering and are able offer the technology required.”
Rachel McCrystal, Senior Manager – Transforming Lives Appeal at Seashell Trust said:
We are over the moon to have the support of Make Events and Gethin Jones who are both fantastic supporters of Seashell Trust and who are joining forces once again to raise much needed funds for the most profoundly disabled children and young people living in our community’
Gethin who has been hosting the One Show during Lockdown with fellow Welsh TV presenter Alex Jones stated:
I am delighted to be able to support the Seashell Trust during this difficult time. I was looking forward to hosting the annual Strictly event, but this will be the next best thing! It’s going to be strange to get the black tie on, just to walk to my laptop in the lounge!”.
Tickets for the quiz are free and can be booked through Eventbrite, and donations in support of Seashell Trust can be made through their Virgin Money Giving page.
