Transport leaders from across the North will discuss decarbonisation and innovation in the region’s freight and logistics sectors in an upcoming panel discussion.
Part of Transport for the North’s (TfN) #TfNTalks series of webinars, transport and political leaders from the region will discuss how the sector can adopt new green technologies, as well how East-West link in the region can be improved.
The event, titled “Northern Freight and Logistics: Decarbonisation and Innovation” is free to attend and will be hosted via Zoom on Monday 8 March at 2pm.
TfN’s Principle Policy Office for freight and logistics, Lucy Hudson, who will be speaking on the panel, commented on how the pandemic has brought logistics networks to the fore. She said:
Since our living rooms and doorsteps have become the new shop fronts, with parcels and food deliveries increasing over the last year – how efficient these deliveries are and reliable in their delivery time has definitely become more visible to us all.
“This is basic logistics and something the industry has been working on for years. We can just see it more now.
“Making sure we now have the right networks to meet our needs and support economic recovery from the pandemic is crucial.
“We must take action now to drive forward the decarbonisation of our freight industry and wider transport network, and Transport for the North is setting out our policies and plans through our upcoming Freight and Decarbonisation Strategies.”
Panellists confirmed to speak at the event include:
- Nicholas Hellen | Transport Editor, The Sunday Times (Chair)
- Councillor Stewart Swinburn | TfN Member for NE Lincolnshire
- Elizabeth De Jong | Policy Director, Logistics UK
- Maggie Simpson | Director General, Rail Freight Group
- Lucy Hudson | Principle Policy Officer: Freight and Logistics, TfN
