Transport for the North (TfN) will discuss the merits of investing in an East-West high speed rail link, dubbed Northern Powerhouse Rail, for Northern England in an upcoming webinar.
TfN have long advocated for the Northern Powerhouse Rail link, also known as HS3, on the grounds that it would improve intercity connectivity within Northern England and drive economic growth. The sub-national transport body assert that increased capacity on the railways would also drive job creation in the region, and help close the North-South productivity gap in bringing other benefits to quality of life, education and the environment.
TfN’s upcoming webinar on the proposed high-speed rail route, part of the #TfNTalks series, will take the format of a panel discussion, featuring a number of regional thought leaders. Announced panel members comprise:
- Chair: David Collins | Northern Correspondent, The Sunday Times
- Tim Wood | Northern Powerhouse Rail Director, TfN
- Mayor Steve Rotheram | Mayor of Liverpool City Region
- Elizabeth de Jong | Director of Policy, Freight Transport Association
- Anna-Jane Hunter | Director North of England Rail, Network Rail
- Lucy Prior MBE | Business Engagement Director, 3Squared Ltd
The TfN webinar session will be held via Zoom video conferencing platform from 1pm to 2pm on Wednesday 22nd July. Those wishing to attend can register for a place onĀ Eventbrite, where there will also be an opportunity to submit questions to the panel.
