An adults sport day, organised by Synergy Recruitment, has raised more than £3,400 for My Cheshire Without Abuse (MyCWA) a charity that supports individuals and families affected by domestic abuse.
With recent funding cuts from Cheshire East Council placing the charity’s services at risk, the Macclesfield-based recruiters chose MyCWA as their 2025 Charity of the Year. Determined to raise awareness and much-needed funds, the team set out to bring the local business community together in support of the cause.

With that goal in mind, the Synergy team hosted a Charity Sports Day at Macclesfield Rugby Club on Thursday 10th July with local businesses taking part in a variety of nostalgic sports day games, from egg & spoon and sack races, to tug of war and beanbag toss. The friendly competition was rounded off with a charity raffle and BBQ. In a heartfelt show of community spirit, the event and backing from local businesses raised £3,402.11 for MyCWA.
The event proved to be a great success with participants. Hannah Shaw of SAS Daniels commented, “it was a really great event, our team all had a lot of fun and we’d happily attend again!”.
But more importantly, the event shone a light on the essential services MyCWA provides. Yasmin Bentley, Director of Synergy Recruitment, said:
“When we heard about the funding cuts, we knew we had to do something to help. The response from the local business community has been incredible, and after such a brilliant day, we’re already planning to make our Charity Sports Day an annual event!”
Funds raised at the sports day event brings Synergy’s total raised for MyCWA this year to £3,872, with more events still to come. To follow their ongoing fundraising journey and to make a donation, visit the team’s JustGiving page.
