Cheshire East Council has launched a survey to hear residents thoughts on markets in Macclesfield, and how they would like to see them developed and used in the future.
The survey is part of continued work against the Macclesfield town centre strategic regeneration framework: this document sets out the council’s vision for the town centre as a place that brings forward investment, jobs and growth.
Enhancements to the indoor market in Macclesfield were identified as a key way to improve town’s retail offering, the council’s framework recommends revitalising the indoor and regular outdoor markets to attract a wider range of shoppers into the town.
Workman LLP has been appointed by Cheshire East Council to advise on options for improving markets, and are running the online survey to gather residents’ views.
Cllr Nick Mannion, chair of Cheshire East Council’s economy and growth committee, said:
“Macclesfield’s markets are already an important part of the town centre offer but we believe they have an even bigger potential, and we want to see what the future could look like.
“We are of course engaging with current market traders and other stakeholders to hear what they have to say, but we are also very interested to hear how residents and visitors to the town see the markets developing.”
Plans for Macclesfield’s markets are one of a number of pipeline projects being progressed by the council – the delivery of which are dependent on capital funding being secured.
They survey to share views on Macclesfield markets is available to complete here until 4th January 2022.
