German airline, Eurowings, will connect the city of Stuttgart with Manchester Airport with direct flights set to begin from Spring 2024.
The new route will make Stuttgart the eighth German city with a direct link to Manchester Airport, alongside Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Freiburg. The four-times weekly Eurowings flights will see the two cities connected once again after Ryanair ceased operating the route in 2019. Overall, Manchester Airport boasts the most diverse route network of any UK airport outside London, with over 200 destinations served.
Chris Woodroofe, Managing Director of Manchester Airport said:
“We are thrilled to be adding another new destination to what is already the most extensive route network of any UK airport outside London, giving our passengers even more choice when planning their next trip.
“Our data shows that Stuttgart is one of the most in-demand destinations that is not already served, so it’s fantastic news that Eurowings will step in and meet that demand.”
In the final 12 months of operations, Ryanair’s Manchester Airport to Stuttgart flights served 78,000 passengers. The restoration of the route by Eurowings will expand the opportunities for business travel between Manchester and Stuttgart, which is a centre for Germany’s automotive industry and headquarters for both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
The city also has strong links with the North-west, having been twinned with St Helens since 1948 – glass from the town played a key role in helping to rebuild Stuttgart after being heavily bombed during the Second World War.
