Cheshire East Council has announced a number of projects that will benefit from government funding via the borough’s share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The announcements follow the reveal of three providers who will deliver schemes under the ‘People & Skills’ strand of funding. The borough was awarded a share of £2.6 billion to invest locally through to March 2025 under the scheme, which replaces support from the European Social Fund following the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Among projects being supported by the funding in this latest announcement are:
- business support programmes;
- refurbishment of Macclesfield and Knutsford indoor markets;
- a cultural creative grant scheme;
- a warmer community buildings grant scheme; and
- grants for new flexible workspaces.
Cllr Sam Corcoran, leader of Cheshire East Council, said:
“This is very positive news for the whole borough, as projects will be delivered in towns and villages that haven’t always previously been able to benefit from central funding opportunities.
“Some of the projects that are going forward are not specific to any one particular place but can benefit a wide range of areas across the borough.
“The timescales for delivering the projects are tight but we will be ready and determined to support the teams and partners involved in them, to help these excellent projects come to fruition.”
Cheshire East Council has been allocated £12.4 million to distribute to local schemes through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The borough has also received an additional £1.5 million specifically to invest in adult numeracy skills via the ‘Multiply’ programme.
