The East Cheshire Eye Society (ECES) – an independent charity which enables those affected by sight loss to lead fulfilling lives – is launching an annual sponsored walk called Vision Walk which they will be hosting every spring.
Fundraising is incredibly important to East Cheshire Eye Society, as it allows them to continue offering an essential support service to blind and partially sighted people in East Cheshire. It also means ECES can continue to raise awareness about their work and build relationships within the community.
The new Vision Walk adds another way the community can help those who need it. The entire walk will be 10 km; however, all walkers do have the opportunity to just complete 5 km and finish at the halfway point.
Alan Chappell, Charity Manager, said:
“This year sees the first of what we hope will become an annual sponsored walk, which we hope will raise much needed funds for the Eye Society and raise awareness of both the work we do to support people locally and also the challenges that people face when living with a visual impairment.
“We hope that the walk will grow over each year, bringing in support (sponsors and walkers!) not just from people who benefit directly from our services, but also from local businesses and organisations who want to support their local community through corporate social responsibility.
“Although 2024 will be our first walk, our plans for this go back several years, but were put on hold due to Covid restrictions. The walk is seen as having the potential to offer a fun, informative and healthy way to support a local charity, and we hope you’ll be able to join us or sponsor us to make our first year a success.”
To take part and join East Cheshire Eye Society’s Vision Walk on Saturday 27th April 2024, please email info@eastcheshireeyesociety.org.uk or telephone 01625 422602. The meeting point will be at East Cheshire Eye Society’s resource centre in Macclesfield, and it’s expected to be great fun along the way for all the family.
