Cheshire East Council has launched a new public consultation as it sets out its digital strategy as part of its vision for an ‘open, fairer and greener’ borough.
Businesses, residents and other stakeholders will have until 17th January to share their views on its plans that encompass digital infrastructure, support the digital economy, accessing public services online and improving health, wellbeing and inclusion in Cheshire East.
The draft digital strategy, available to download here, outlines the four digital aims for Cheshire East and ways it can take advantage of emerging new technologies for the benefit of all in the borough:
- to be an information-led council, delivering services which are responsive, convenient, accessible and safe in a consistent and cost effective way;
- to support the delivery of a world-class, area-wide digital infrastructure, allowing everyone to access and benefit from digital technologies;
- to have a digitally skilled workforce and an internationally recognised area for digital businesses to thrive; and
- to be an area where people live well for longer; independently and enjoying the place where they live.
Cllr Sam Corcoran, leader of Cheshire East Council and chair of the corporate policy committee, said:
“Maximising on the opportunities that the digital revolution provides is a priority for Cheshire East. We recognise that new and emerging technologies can deliver real benefits to residents and businesses and provide opportunities to rethink how council services are provided.
“We also have a desire to improve connectivity for all communities – helping residents and businesses to benefit from the convenience and flexibility that can bring.
“But we know that digital also brings risks. We need to make sure our most vulnerable customers and communities are not excluded and that we can all use technology in a safe and secure way.
“This consultation will seek the views of our stakeholders, ensuring that the themes captured within the strategy meet their aspirations and needs. I would encourage as many people as possible to have their say.”
Consultation responses will be used to help guide and shape the strategy before it is implemented by the council. Responses to Cheshire East’s digital strategy can be shared via the council’s consultation portal.
