Applications have opened for Cheshire businesses to enter the High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise, now in their 15th year.
The awards, founded in 2006 by the then High Sheriff of Cheshire, David Briggs, recognise the achievements of businesses across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington. After a two year break, the High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise will return to in-person events, with this year’s winners announced at a celebration at the University of Chester Business School on 7 April 2022.
Launching applications for Cheshire businesses, the current High Sheriff if Cheshire for 2021/22, Robert Mee said:
When I retired after a long career in Financial Services, I was asked by Cheshire West and Chester Council If I would help to set up a Development Board for Ellesmere Port to drive economic growth and help advise on priorities for the town. I chaired the Board for five years before joining the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership Board, where I chaired the Strategy Board and the Cheshire Science Corridor Enterprise Zone Board which includes Alderley Science Park, Birchwood Park and Thornton Energy park. These roles have allowed me to meet many of our terrific Cheshire businesses and realise what a great diverse business community we have.”
For the first time, the awards will also recognise the charitable and non-profit sector in the region, in response to how these organisations have been fundamental in meeting local communities’ needs during the Covid-19 pandemic; Robert Mee continued:
The last 18 months have also highlighted the vital role we can all play in helping our voluntary sector as they provide vital services to our residents, which is why we have included an award linked to the third sector and a community business award.”
